Beth Cerrone is a Cybersecurity Instructor and Technology Manager at the Innovation Center @ SVVSD in Longmont, CO. Ms. Cerrone started this wonderful journey in education over 25 years ago and never looked back. Her path into cybersecurity instruction began four years ago from a student's request to learn cybersecurity. Fast forward four years and she has developed a cybersecurity pathway that includes four courses -- Intro to Cybersecurity, Python in Cybersecurity, Linux Essentials, and Ethical Hacking. Given the immediate need for cybersecurity employees, Ms. Cerrone's goal is to help fill the pipeline and get students excited about cybersecurity. At the Innovation Center, our goal is to provide students will experiental opportunities and prepare students for their next step in an authentic way.
Ms. Cerrone is a project manager for two project teams at the Innovation Center. On project teams, students get paid to do real life work for clients. She works with the Cyber Tech Team and the App Development team. The Cyber Tech Team has three major projects: Cyber Patriot -- students run practices for district participants helping them learn how to protect a variety of operating systems. Senior Citizen Project -- students partner with the Longmont Senior Center to teach seniors how to protect themselves in this online world. Code Zone Challenge -- students create and run a middle school coding competition. The goal of these projects is to teach students the soft skills needed to be successful and also improve their technical skills through work with mentors.
