Valerie Truesdale currently serves as Senior Assistant Executive Director of AASA, the Superintendents Association. Valerie previously served as Chief Technology and Transformation Officer for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, growing personalized learning for CMS’ 150,000 students. Prior to joining CMS, Valerie served as a superintendent of schools for ten years in Beaufort County, SC and in Oconee County, SC. Valerie has served public education as a chief academic officer, deputy superintendent for state department of education, high school principal, and most importantly, a teacher. Valerie earned credentials as a Certified Educational Technology Leader (CETL) by Consortium for School Networking (CoSN) and Certified Education Chief Technology Officer (CECTO) by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Valerie has been named CTO of the Year by the Charlotte Business Journal, State Superintendent of the Year for SC, and is a past president of ASCD international. She is a current board member of the National Dropout Prevention Center, CoSN, and the National Policy Board for Educational Administration (NPBEA). Valerie holds a Ph. D. from USC in Educational Leadership, an MBA from Georgia State in Marketing, and a Bachelor’s degree in Education from Clemson University.
