Lorrie Owens is a current CoSN Board Member and serves as the Chief Technology Officer for the San Mateo County Office of Education. She is the first woman and the only African American to lead a technology department at the county office of education level in the state of California. Prior to her current assignment, she served as the Director of Technology for the Alameda Unified School District and later in the same role at the Dublin Unified School District. Lorrie is also a member of and served on the board of California IT in Education (CITE); she served as CITE’s president during its rebranding in 2019. She has also served as the chairperson of California’s Technology Steering Committee, and co-chair of the statewide Online Collaborative Learning Subcommittee. Lorrie also serves as a Personnel Commissioner for the Alameda County Office of Education. Lorrie presents regularly at statewide and national conferences, on panels and on webinars, and is occasionally asked to write pieces on educational technology issues for association newsletters and magazines. She is the recipient of the California County Superintendents’ STAR Award, and CITE’s Lifetime Achievement Award for her work in educational technology. Lorrie is a tireless advocate for transformational leadership in education, digital equity for K-12 students, and increasing the number of underrepresented groups serving in K-12 educational technology positions.
